The Diocese of Worcester and New England is part of the Self-Ruled Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America, and is led by His Grace, Bishop JOHN.
Our Diocese was created in 2004 following the historic decision of the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Antioch to grant autonomous status to the Antiochian Orthodox Church in North America and recognize it as a Self-Ruled local Church. The former regional system of the Archdiocese was then converted to a Diocesan structure and the New England Region became the Diocese of Worcetser and New England, with its cathedral located in Worcester, MA.
On Sunday, December 11th, 2011, Archimandrite John Abdalah was consecrated auxiliary bishop by His Beatitude Patriarch IGNATIUS IV (Hazim) of Antioch and All the East in the Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos in the Patriarchal Monastery of Our Lady of Balamand, in Balamand, Lebanon. Bishop JOHN also presides as episcopal overseer of the Antiochian Archdiocese's Western Rite Vicariate and oversees all Western-Rite parishes in the Archdiocese.
